Yum Jung Ah memulai debut aktingnya melalui sebuah drama MBC yang berjudul Our Paradise pada tahun 1990. Kemudian pada 1996, ia tampil dalam drama Sakwa Kkot Hyangki.

Namanya menjadi semakin terkenal setelah sukses tampil dalam film A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) dan The Old Garden (2007). Ia juga sukses dalam film Cart (2014).

Pada tahun 2018, ia membintangi sebuah drama terkenal berjudul SKY Castle yang ditayangkan di stasiun televisi JTBC.

Setelah itu, pada tahun 2022, ia sempat tampil sebagai peran pendukung dalam drama Snowdrop. Selain itu, ia juga sukses dalam drama Cleaning Up pada tahun yang sama.
